The Escuela de Violeros de Zaragoza will begin to take its classes in guitar making during the academic year 2015-2016, to which further classes will also be offered: vihuelas de mano, vihuelas de arco, ancient lutes, cross-strung haps, together with other instruments made in the violeros’ workshops. A module on restoration of musical instruments will also be included.
La Escuela intends to transmit to all its students the old crafting techniques alongside the necessary training to develop these skills. In addition, theory lectures shall be imparted. This will allow them to go beyond pure mechanics to go into the difficult task of giving this instruments a life of their own.
Of all approaches taken by La Escuela, the search for accuracy of contemporary aesthetics of each instrument has a special meaning. It is particularly needed to sensitize violeros and performers to this search, in a moment wherein early music already takes place in the cultural offering. Its adaptability to great concert stages or to the market demands, threatens the innermost essence of early music. From this point of view, the Escuela de Violeros de Zaragoza seeks to be high quality by respecting materials, procedures, structures and ornamentation.
